Co-Brand Streaming Services
A Mock-Up
Made With Adobe XD
Background
Netflix was created in 1997 in Scotts Valley, California by Marc Randolph and Reed Hastings. Netflix made the video rental experience better with flat-fee unlimited rentals without complications such as due dates, late fees, or shipping and handling fees. A majority of the streaming companies have adopted the Netflix way of offering streaming videos and now Netflix is just like Blockbuster back in 2000. Netflix must co-brand their marketing with other new streaming services or disappear the way Blockbuster did when Blockbuster failed to join Netflix.
Problem
This year Netflix has lost more subscribers than it gained. In a report to shareholders at the end of the first quarter of 2022, Netflix described a combination of events to be the reasoning for the loss of users. One big reason is Netflix lost a lot of customers from Russia due to the conflict in the Ukraine. The competition from Disney Disney+ and HBO Max along with the present economy were also factors in the shareholder report. Business analysts predict Netflix may be forced to adopt some of the revenue streams that have made the traditional media companies successful for decades: theatrical distribution, advertising-supported subscription services and possibly even links to consumer products.
Design
In the mock-up that I came up with, I suggest that Netflix adds music to its platform by co-branding Netflix with Spotify. By combining Spotify music to the Netflix platform, this could create a new revenue stream for Netflix and create Netflix Original Music. I call the Netflix and Spotify co-branding, Netflix Soundtrax. The Netflix brand would have Netflix Original Music to go with the Netflix Original Films.
